Monarch Noir Industries is a growing media powerhouse that prides itself on magnifying underrepresented and disparaged voices. However, in order to bring in a new monarchy we need to shed light on issues that plague our community. We support the following issues and would like to highlight California based and national organizations that are doing the work.
Early Childhood Education
Child Care Aware of America works with more than 400 state and local Child Care Resource and Referral agencies nationwide. They have cultivated an extensive network of programs, services, and agencies nationwide to achieve their mission, Child Care Aware leads projects that increases the quality and availability of child care, undertakes research, and advocates child care policies that positively impact the lives of children and families.
First 5 California connects families to the services and support they need to give their children a healthier tomorrow. With an array of services addressing topics like: Nutrition’s, Children & Technology, Parenting, Mental/Emotional Support, Immigrants Family Resources and more. First 5 LA works tirelessly to uphold their mission to convene, partner in, and help lead the movement to create and implement a comprehensive, integrated, and coordinated system for California’s children prenatal through age 5 and their families.
High School Retention
National Dropout Prevention Center (NDPC)
NDPC began in 1986 to serve as a clearinghouse on issues related to dropout prevention and to offer strategies designed to increase the graduation rate in America’s schools. Over the years, the NDPC has become a well-established national resource for sharing solutions for student success. It does so through its clearinghouse function, active research and evaluation projects, publications, and through a variety of professional development activities. In addition, the NDPC conducts a variety of third-party evaluations and Program Assessment and Reviews (PAR).
826LA is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Their services are structured around an understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this in mind, they provide after-school tutoring, evening and weekend workshops, in-school tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.
Gender Equity
At Equality Now, they believe in creating a just world where women and girls have the same rights as men and boys. They tackle the most difficult issues, challenge ingrained cultural assumptions and call out inequality wherever we see it. Social change often begins with legal change and so they use the power of the law to create enduring equality for women and girls everywhere. They stand firmly on the following topics: end sexual violence, end sex trafficking, and end harmful practices.
The Trans Wellness Center (TWC) provides comprehensive resources and services for transgender and non-binary people under one roof. The 3,000-square-foot center is the first-of-its-kind in the United States, with six local organizations joining forces to create this new home for wellness. The TWC was conceived and created by community leaders and allies, honoring their lifelong dedication to raise awareness about the needs and the contributions of the transgender community.The TWC was formed by the following six local community organizations: APAIT (Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team); Bienestar; Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles; Friends Community Center; Translatin@ Coalition; and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, which is leading the management and operations support for the TWC.
Civil Rights
#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.
The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC)
The Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC) works to end mass incarceration in California. To ensure our communities are safe, healthy, and whole, ARC empowers formerly and currently incarcerated people to thrive by providing a support network, comprehensive reentry services, and opportunities to advocate for policy change. Through our grassroots policy advocacy, we are dedicated to transforming the criminal justice system so that it is more just and equitable for all people.
Poverty & Inequality
Muslim Hands is an international NGO based in the UK that works in over 50 countries around the globe and is dedicated to tackling the root causes of poverty. The organization is passionate about working beyond the immediate relief, towards supporting communities in the long-term.
The organization has implemented many long-term project, including schools, healthcare clinics and livelihoods around the world. It works closely with partners and distributes aid in efficient and transparent was to make a lasting difference to the communities it works with. The organization believes that every human being has the right to education, access to clean water and food, as well as means to supports themselves and their families. It approaches each situation on a case by case basis to find appropriate solutions and strives to empower people for the long-term.
CDF work with Congress and the federal government to advocate for federal policies that improve children’s lives. They also advocate at the state level, pushing for policy reforms through our six state offices that collectively represent nearly 40 percent of all children living in poverty in America. And we train and equip young people, faith communities, decision makers and community organizations to become local advocates for children across the country.
After four decades of advocacy, they know that changing the system to better serve our children takes time—and there are children across America who need help now. So we run programs that change the odds for children like CDF Freedom Schools®, which reach more than 12,000 children every year, empowering them to excel today and make a difference tomorrow.
National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI)
For more than 40 years, NBCDI has been at the forefront of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, and parents around critical and timely issues that directly impact Black children and their families. NBCDI supports and works primarily with Black children birth through age eight and their families, through coalition building with community-based organizations, foundations, corporations, school systems, elected officials, government, child care, Head Start and many other public and private partnerships. They are trusted partners in delivering culturally relevant resources that respond to the unique strengths and needs of Black children around issues including early childhood education, health, child welfare, literacy, and family engagement.
Child Care Resource Center (CCRC)
As one of the largest non-profits in the state of California with a service area of 22,500 square miles, CCRC currently provides services to 50,000 children and families every month. Current programs include resource libraries, home visiting, workforce development, family engagement, financial care assistance, Head Start preschool, Early Head Start, Early Head Start - Childcare partnership, Motherhood and so much more. They enable Southern California communities by providing quality, support, development, and education for their most vulnerable children and advocate for them in our nations highest courts and offices.
My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBK)
MBK Alliance works to unleash the power of communities working together to solve problems for boys and young men of color, at a level to improve real life outcomes. We believe communities are the unit of change to realize improved life outcomes for boys and young men of color. Research shows that collective work of community leaders, members, and public and private agencies pursuing the same goals for boys and young men of color can lead to sustainable, place-based change. They prioritize initiatives like: getting a healthy start and entering school ready to learn, reading at a grade level by third grade, graduating high school for college and career, and much more.
Godparents Youth Organization (GYO)
GYO is a nonprofit community-based organization founded in 2005 under the leadership of Tanya Walters, an LAUSD school bus driver. She and fellow school bus drivers witnessed daily the disconnect many of their riders had from school and community. Realizing that the bonds they formed with their passengers could be used to change their lives, they dedicated themselves to making a difference in the lives of the youth who seldom went beyond the troubled neighborhoods where they lived. Their mission is to improve the lives of youth by increasing academic achievement, leadership skills, high school graduations, and college admissions by connecting them to the world through travel experiences.
Association for Women’s Rights in Development
The Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) is an international organization working to achieve gender equality and women’s human rights across the word. The vision of AWID is “a world where feminist realities flourish, where resources and power are shared in ways that enable everyone, and future generations, to thrive and realize their full potential with dignity, love and respect, and where Earth nurtures life in all its diversity”. The organization supports the gender justice movements to become driving forces in oppression.
The Center for Transyouth Health and Development
The Center for Transyouth Health and Development rejects the gatekeeper model of care and focuses on how to help our patients and families in the least restrictive environment possible. The CTYHD focuses on gender-affirming care and strives to make all our patients and their families feel welcomed and understood. The Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is dedicated to providing affirming care for transgender and gender diverse children, adolescents, young adults and their families. As one of the oldest and largest transyouth programs, the Center partners with youth and their families to advance the field through innovative practice, training and research.
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)
Founded in 1909 in response to the ongoing violence against Black people around the country, the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) is the largest and most pre-eminent civil rights organization in the nation. We have over 2,200 units and branches across the nation, along with well over 2M activists. Our mission is to secure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race-based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
Reform L.A. Jails represents a coalition of citizens, community leaders, businesses, and organizations that recognize we need a more effective strategy to reduce recidivism, prevent crime, and permanently reduce the population of people cycling in and out of jail that are experiencing mental health, drug dependency, or chronic homelessness issues.
The Borgen Project is the US based non-profit working to make poverty a focus of the US foreign policy. The organization operates at political levels and advocates for programs that are effective in fighting extreme poverty.
The focus of the organization’s advocacy efforts are starvation and global food security, newborn, child and mother survival, access to clear water and sanitation and food aid reform. The Borgen Project advocates for solutions of these issues by meeting the US congressional members to secure support for poverty reducing legislation. It also mobilizes people around the world to make the issue of poverty a political priority and teaches them basic advocacy skills that will allow them to communicate with their governments. In this way, the Borgen Project builds awareness of global issues and innovations in poverty reduction.
Today the Center's nearly 800 employees provides services for more LGBT people than any other organization in the world, offering programs, services, and global advocacy that span four broad categories: Health, Social Services and Housing, Culture and Education, Leadership and Advocacy. Despite our size, scope, and determination to meet the growing demand for our services, we remain a lean, fiscally disciplined organization, earning a four-star Charity Navigator rating for six consecutive years.
